The priority direction of CERSD activity is doing relevant research on the issues of socio-economic and sustainable development of the country, region; cooperation and interaction with business and government agencies, scientific and educational institutions in sustainability; furthering the achievement of the overall goal of sustainable development proclaimed in the policy documents of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the United Nations.
CERSD in accordance with the tasks assigned to it performs the following functions:
In the field of planning and organisation of scientific research:
- develops draft plans of scientific - research works in the field of economy, social sphere and sustainable development;
- ensures timely and quality performance of scientific-research works in accordance with the approved scientific tasks and research programmes;
- Carries out work on implementation of the results of scientific-research works.
In the field of scientific research support:
- organises information service of scientific works carried out at CERSD;
- searches for partners for research co-operation;
In the field of linking scientific research with the scientific process:
- participates in the development of science-based solutions to the problems of development and improvement of higher education;
- provides its base for doctoral, master's and undergraduate students to conduct research, including dissertation, coursework and diploma projects, research works, research, production and other types of practice;
- dissemination of scientific knowledge and research results through publications, mass media, conferences, seminars and trainings.
