The fund of the university library consists of documents in various media, traditional and modern. The foundation is based on educational, scientific, popular science publications, fiction, periodicals, audiovisual and electronic documents.
The library was founded in parallel with the university in 1998, the same year the university was founded. Today, the library's collection is about 738535 copies, including 375926 copies in the state language. According to a single reader's ticket, 5 650 thousand readers.
These are the teaching staff, researchers, teaching and support staff, students and other categories of university staff.
The library has several departments: a subscription, a reading room for 100 seats, a science hall for 25 seats and a media library hall, a periodicals hall for 40 seats and a reading room in a student dormitory for 20 seats, a total of 185 seats.
In recent years, there have been changes in the field of introducing new pedagogical ideas and modern technical means of information support into the educational process. Therefore, in 2003, a scientific hall and a media library hall were opened in the library. The reading room is equipped with computers connected to the Internet via WI-FI. Information databases «Law» and «Paragraph» are also available for library readers.
Since 2004, a periodicals hall has been organized. The library subscribes about 40 periodicals, 25 of them in the state language. A file of newspaper and magazine articles is being kept.
A necessary condition for the successful work of the university library with readers is a well-organized reference and bibliographic apparatus. The library maintains catalogs: service, alphabetical, systematic, thematic card files of newspaper and magazine articles. In 2012, an agreement was signed with RІEL.
In addition, the library has been maintaining an electronic catalog «KALIS» since 2015. Since 2021, on the basis of the «KALIS» library system, an electronic library has been launched on the university's website at http://library.semuniver.kz/. The library is the information and cultural center of the University:
promotes high-quality education and training of highly qualified specialists in all areas;
provides a book fund and modern electronic resources corresponding to the educational programs of the university;
is in a constant process of interaction with faculties and departments;
provides information services, studying the needs of users;
regularly organizes exhibitions of new products.
In the daily educational and scientific process of the university, the library tries to create optimal conditions for its users. All the activities of the library are aimed at making the reader feel comfortable, receive the necessary information, due attention of the staff and moral satisfaction from each visit.
The library takes an active part in intra-university events, during international conferences and scientific seminars.
